Tutorials: Getting Started

Start the FolderMIll Control Panel monitoring and configuration utility.

Perform basic initial configuration. The relevant dialog will be displayed automatically when the software is first started.

Basic settings may be modified while the server is running by selecting the Settings button. This does not require the service to be stopped. Parameters are updated prior to every processing cycle.

Please note the FolderMIll Service startup mode: manual/automatic.

If the automatic option is selected, processing will begin immediately following server startup whereas under the manual option, you will have to log into the system and start the service.

Edit the processing rule template created by the installation process. The edit dialog will also be displayed automatically at first startup.

Use the dialog to define the input and the output folders either by entering the path manually or by calling up the Folder Browse dialog. Use drop-down menus to select conversion format, color depth, and resolution.

Having configured each rule, use the operating system tools to share the specified input and output folders on the server to the local-area network and to specify read/write privileges for the selected workgroups.

Use the "Security" tab to grant everyone full access to these folders. This is because the image of a document being converted is created with the Local System access privileges.

For regular LAN (domain) users to be able to read, copy and subsequently delete the conversion server's output, they should have full access.

Start the document conversion server by pressing the "Start service" button in the FolderMill Control Panel.

This completes the configuration enabling users to convert their documents.
Rules may also be edited, created, etc. while the server is running.

For convenience, shortcuts for the input and the output folders may be placed on user desktops or mapped as network drives. The best way to do this for different workgroups is by using the Active Directory Group Policy.
